Miniature Auction

I do not go back to 1950 although I did do an Intern­ship / Mail Room gig at Y&R /SF in 1957. In the mid 1970s I was asked to become the pres­i­dent of the San Fran­cisco Society of Commu­ni­cating Arts (an orga­ni­za­tion that was formed when the San Fran­cisco Art Direc­tors and Artists Club and the Copy­writers Club merged), even though I was neither an art director nor any longer copy­writer, because the club was in big finan­cial trouble. The club owed a lot of money to a lot of suppliers and could not seem to find a way out. I person­ally went to every cred­itor and got all but one to either greatly reduce the debt or forgive it all together. The other thing we did was have avery successful ​“Minia­ture Auction”. Many artists and art direc­tors, including Larry Duke, Chuck Eckart, Lee Ruggles and Don Sternloff donated ​“minia­tures” to be auctioned off. I wish I could remember all of the people that donated their work. We raised some pretty good money that got the club back on its feet and there was some really great stuff auctioned off. I bought a few pieces myself.
